Tapas
The spirit of sharing
Tapa means ‘lid’ or ‘cover’ in Spanish. The origins of the modern day tapas are not truly known, however here is one explanation, imagine sitting outside a Spanish Taverna listening to an old Spaniard spinning a yarn or maybe telling you how the name tapas really came about, whatever the true explanation is, here at the Crown, we like this one……
At the end
of day, farmers and labourers would often go to the local ‘tascas’
for a well-earned drink, on top of which they would find a slice of bread to
protect it from the flies. Little by little the innkeeper would place items
of food on top of the bread, such as cured meats and sausages as an accompanying
snack.
This edible lid was the start of tapas we know today.![]()
Our Tapas menu consists of small individual dishes covering a wide variety of different tastes. Enjoy a snack, share with friends or feast to suit your appetite. Enjoy!
